What we don't collect
- ✕No account, no sign-up, no email address, no name.
- ✕No cookies of any kind.
- ✕No location access. The map doesn't ask for or use your device's GPS.
- ✕No third-party ad or tracking scripts.
What stays on your device
Your chosen scene (Midnight or Zinc, night lights, aurora), your narration voice and language, and a couple of small flags used to avoid repeating a one-time hint, all stored with localStorage, in your browser only. It never reaches us, and clearing your browser's site data clears it.
Whatever you're currently looking at, the projection, a selected country, a comparison, the time of day, lives in the page's own URL, not in storage. That's deliberate: it's what lets you copy the address bar and share exactly what you're seeing.
Analytics and error reporting
The app is built to optionally support two things, both off by default and, as of this writing, not turned on for equalglobe.com:
- Cookieless, anonymous analytics (Umami). If ever enabled, it would count page views and named events (which projection was opened, whether street view was entered) without cookies, without an ID tied to you, and without anything that could identify you individually.
- Error reporting (Sentry). If ever enabled, it would report a crash's stack trace so a bug can be fixed, with personal data stripped from the report before it's sent.
If either is ever switched on, this page will say so and say exactly what it collects, not just link to a vendor's own policy.
Hosting
equalglobe.com is served by Vercel, which, like any host, logs standard web server request data (IP address, user agent, timestamp) for operating the service and preventing abuse. We don't access that beyond routine deployment logs. See Vercel's own privacy policy for what they retain.
Data behind the map
Country outlines and areas come from Natural Earth (public domain). Street-level tiles come from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), served by OpenFreeMap. None of this is data about you. It's the map itself.
Questions
This is an independent educational project, not a company with a support desk. If something here doesn't match what the app actually does, that's a bug in this page. Please flag it.
